How and When to Teach Science

It’s well known that students’ math and literacy scores are still declining - and so are science achievements. Elevating proficiency in science and STEM is key to students’ futures, both today and in their professional careers and progress in the workforce.

Making the connection between advancing technology and real-life applications now is essential for student vitality.

Teaching STEM is key to building STEM literacy and proficiency. There is plenty of science to back this up. But when?

Begin early. It’s why we provide an award-winning K-2 curriculum. (And yes, there is a PreK program on our draft table). Curiosity begins at an early age, and answering that with instruction that introduces motor skills, spatial awareness, and movement patterns benefits these young learners as they begin their educational journey. Our hands-on learning methodology is perfect for these young learners looking to play.

And the “how”? It’s not rocket science. When the curriculum is relevant, physically active (insert sports!), and applies 21st-century skills, progress will be made. Students will learn by doing and develop the critical skills applicable in the classroom and beyond.

At STEM Sports, we believe in engaging youth early with appealing academics that power them forward today and in the future!

“There is a need to build thinkers, and the best way to build thinkers is to challenge them early and often with relevant content where the answers aren’t given and can only be explored.”
- Haley MacLean, STEM Sports’ Education and Curriculum Specialist and former teacher.
